Oakley Ogden
Art Direction, Digital Communications
Overview
Oakley is a professional mental health counselor and meditation coach. She approaches her work from a place of genuine honesty, compassion, and proactive guidance. Her methods are informed by spiritual practices and grounded by contemporary science.
While working with the team at BUHV Designs, I was the Art Director in charge of the creation of her comprehensive brand identity that has remained evergreen for the past 5 years and counting.
the brand
My team and I worked to develop visual brand elements and language that reflected the key aspects of both Oakley’s approach to therapy and her unique personality.
The overall feel is minimal, modern, feminine and relies on natural shapes and colors to set a soothing, welcoming tone. We used a variety of spiritual symbolism elements without being overtly religious. This is paired with custom photography and videography which anchors the content with genuine and honest imagery.
The Website
Oakley’s website is most people’s primary entry point to working with her as a counselor. This means that for many, the website would be their very first step into a personal journey of healing. It was critical, therefor, to create a site that clearly and succinctly communicated her offerings as a mental health practitioner and established trust with potential clients.
To accomplish this, I created a UI design that thoughtfully blended our curated language with distinctive imagery. I leveraged very basic, stripped down interactive elements to organize collapse text for a throughly un-complicated user experience. The custom video by the amazing team at Brand Viva is the icing on the cake.
The Newsletter
Oakley is a prolific writer and meditation coach. Each month, Oakley creates a guided meditation practice focusing on a unique theme in mental health. She pairs this with a thoughtfully written newsletter which discusses the topic of her focused monthly meditation. The newsletter was also leveraged to announce events, collaborations, and workshops.
This ambitious newsletter was produced using a custom suite of modules I designed and built in Mailchimp. Each month, we created and sent a new message to her list of clients, professional colleagues, students, family, and more. By listening to the audio of the meditation and diving deep into the themes of her writing, I meticulously curated each newsletter’s atmospheric imagery using metaphor, symbolism, and color theory.
The audio files were then added to the Resources section of the site, as well as a copy of the month’s newsletter. These are all available to listen to and read for free – follow this link to view more.
